English Language Proficiency required. DUTIES:
One vacancy exists at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care system (CAVHCS) for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Outpatient Clinic. The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the day to day clinical operation of the clinic. This includes regular assessment with the administrative Officer for the clinic of building function for safety and effectiveness and facilitation of necessary corrective actions. These may include efforts by clinic staff, by other VA staff (i.e. Facilities Management Service), or by the DOD sharing partners. It also includes maintaining effective teamwork among clinic staff.

CMO is responsible for the coordination and oversight of clinical and administrative activities in the outpatient clinic.

CMO is responsible for performance improvement activities in the clinic.

Dir! ects and supervises clinical activities of the Primary Care physicians,! physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

Supports other Service Chiefs and Clinical Directors in overseeing the operations of Primary Care, Women Veterans, OIF/OEF, Diabetic Veteran program staff, specialty and all ancillary services performed in the clinic.

Devotes 80% of time in direct patient care, serves as a role model for peers.

Completes annual proficiency evaluations for the Primary Care physicians, and physician assistants.

Oversees the work performed by the Primary Nurse practitioners.

Incorporates provider specific performance improvement data in these appraisals.

Responsible for the oversight and coordination of process improvement initiatives, assuring teamwork and addressing customer service issues in the clinic.

Position includes broad management and administrative responsibilities.

English Proficiency . Physician, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d)

Citizenship - Citizen of the United States.

Education - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Licensure and Registration - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medic! ine or surgery in a State, Territory, or commonwealth of the United Sta! tes, or in the District of Columbia.
