The Department of Psychology ! at The University of Alabama announces an opening for a senior level, tenured faculty position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level. The position will serve as the Executive Director of the Brewer-Porch Children’s Center and as a faculty member in the Clinical Psychology Program within the Department of Psychology. This position is contingent upon experience and approved funding.

The Executive Director will have the primary responsibilities for personnel, budget, and facilities management for Brewer-Porch. The Brewer-Porch Children’s Center ( BPCC ) was established by the Alabama legislature in 1970 to provide a model treatment program for Alabama’s special needs children, adolescents and their families, and the program is based within the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama. The BPCC is named after Albert Brewer, a former governor of Alabama, and Ralph Porch, a former legislator, and is located on 60 acres of land near the! Tuscaloosa Veterans Hospital. Treatment in the BPCC programs ! is based on an interdisciplinary approach, and involves professionals from psychology, education, nursing, psychiatry, social work and counseling. BPCC operates six programs. These programs are the Intensive Residential Program (ages 6-18), Short Term Treatment and Evaluation Program (ages 6-12), Therapeutic Foster Care Program (ages 6-21), Community Autism Program (ages 3-12), Outpatient Day Treatment Program (ages 6-12), and Adolescent Adaptive Skills Program (ages 12-18). BPCC also provides educational and research experiences to graduate and undergraduate students from The University of Alabama.

The Clinical Psychology Program at The University of Alabama has four concentration areas, including Clinical Child Psychology. The latter concentration has four faculty lines, with faculty having current research interests in psychopathy, Conduct Disorders, aggressive behavior and social cognitive processes, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and impaired attenti! on and working memory processes, Anxiety Disorders, and autism. The Department provides unique opportunities for collaboration with faculty from the other clinical and experimental psychology concentrations within the Department.

The position is scheduled to begin by January 1, 2014. The applicant must have at least five years of post-master’s progressive managerial experience in a mental health treatment setting, and must have had successful experience with writing and securing federal or state contracts and/or grants. The applicant will be expected to have a research program and be involved in mentorship of graduate students. Preferred areas of research include adapting and implementing evidence-based practices for child & adolescent mental health services. Teaching would include 1 graduate course per year (areas of teaching needs include supervision of advanced child practicum, supervision of basic practicum; Intellectual Assessment; Child Treatment; Advanced ! Child Assessment). The potential exists for buying out of teaching duti! es within Psychology if the applicant is sufficiently supported by research grants. Candidates should have the following credentials: (1) Ph.D. prior to August 2014; (2) be a graduate of an APA or CPA -accredited clinical psychology program; (3) have completed an APA or CPA -accredited internship; and (4) be able to provide clinical supervision of graduate students.
