  • Responsible for providing comprehensive patient care
in accordance with established regulations. Uses
judgment in assessing patient condition! s, interprets
guidelines, and modifies patient care as required.
  • Coordinates patient care through a continuum and
facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in
relation to clinical are, quality and cost
effectiveness.
  • Accountable for making patient care assignments based
on the scope of practice and skill level of personnel.
  • Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty
care as required.
  • Sets up, operates, and monitors specialized medical
equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units,
oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific
equipment.
  • Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures; sets up
procedure room and equipment; provides patient teaching
on a preventative healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Performs/assists with procedures such as bladder
catheterizations, administration! of oxygen, visual
acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes ! and ears,
tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic
specific procedures, in accordance with established
protocols.
  • Ensures procedures and treatments are properly
documented.
  • Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored
at the end of each work shift.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning
are performed and that medications and supplies are
replenished.
  • May participate in the orientation and performance
evaluations of newly assigned personnel.
  • May be required to augment clinical nursing support
during the absence of other team nurses due to illness,
leave, or deployment.
  • Educate and counsel patients/families about their
potential risk for diseases or injuries; makes
appropriate recommendations/referrals; conducts
education and counseling in one on one or group settings
as! appropriate.

Job Requirements:FORMAL EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program is
preferred. Associates Degree with an additional 2 years
of hands on experience can be substituted.
  • Current nursing license approved by the State Board of
Nursing.
  • Participate in professional development activities and
maintain professional affiliations. Attend conferences
and workshops related to duties.
  • Required to possess and maintain a current Basic Life
Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Nurses assigned to pediatric clinics must possess
current PALS.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Shall have provided hands on nursing services in the
specialty clinical service area for at least 24 months
within the past 84 months in a primary care clinic
setting.
  • Must possess ! knowledge of preventive health schedules,
procedures, proces! ses, and education methods.
  • Must possess knowledge of disease management and
population health principals.
  • Must possess knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their
expected beneficial effects, and potential side effects
and complications of their use as well as the accurate
administration of the pharmacologic agent, including
dosage calculations as required.
  • Knowledge of the administrative requirements for
proper documentation of patient’s condition including
disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and
follow up care.
  • Must be able to recognize adverse signs and symptoms
and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Must possess excellent written communication skills to
accurately document all actions associated with the
patient (both written and electronic)
  • Must possess excellent oral communication skills for
p! atient/family education and telephone triage of
patients as well as being able to communicate
effectively with all parties (i.e. patient, physician,
other healthcare providers, patient’s family etc)
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in CPR and
supporting other medical professionals in providing
support measures.
  • Must be able to perform infection control procedures
  • Experience in operation of unique military health care
computer systems/procedures.
  • Previous working knowledge of the military health care
system including TRICARE health benefits or a working
knowledge of the principles of fee-for-services,
preferred provider network and managed care/HMO
organizations is highly desired.
