The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC) is an integral part of the Medical community that provides acute, tertiary, medical, and surgical care to Veterans of A! labama. The Medical Center provides care to a veteran population of 420,000 in Alabama and treats approximately 57,000 unique veterans annually. The medical center serves as a referral center for this area with 138 operating beds with care provided in almost all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties.

Birmingham, AL is located in the heart of the Southeastern United States and is a progressive center for medical research, banking, music, technology, art, engineering, and higher education.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

English Language Proficiency required. DUTIES:
The Accreditation Readiness Coordinator is a Registered Nurse responsible for continuous readiness of Patient Care Service for acc! reditation and regulatory agency review and compliance (Joint Commissio! n, Inspector General, etc.); performance and quality measures; and program monitors and actions (PFCC, CAT). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to management of processes related to survey readiness, root cause analysis actions, peer review actions, process actions, LEAN actions, EPRP monitors, IPEC monitors, tracers, chart reviews, employee surveys, environment of care surveillance. The Accreditation Readiness Coordinator will be responsible for compiling data and communicating information to nurse leadership in a format that is conducive for utilization in decision making, strategic planning and performance improvement. The Accreditation Readiness Coordinator will also assist the Nursing Informatics Coordinator in managing electronic nursing documentation systems Vista, CPRS, BCMA, and Essentris; troubleshooting hardware/software issues; assisting with Clinical Bar Code committee and VISN 7 BCMA committee activities; and electronic nursing documentation system ! reporting. The Accreditation Readiness Coordinator will also provide support to the nurse recruiter regarding staffing methodology, PEV and VANOD processes. This position requires excellent computer knowledge and skills; and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Share Point.

Tour of Duty: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with flexibility as needed.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses a re not authorized for this position and will not be reimbursed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens per VA Handbook 5005/2, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3g).

Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. The National League for Nursing! Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing! Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

Licensure : Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated! to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Nurse I, level I-Associate Degree or diploma in nursing; no experience
  • Nurse I, level 2-Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing, approx. 1 year experience OR Associate Degree in Nursing and a Bachelors in a related field, no experience, OR BSN, no experience
  • Nurse I, Level 3-Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing, approx. 2-3 years experience OR Assoc! iates Degree or Diploma in Nursing and Bachelors degree in a related fi! eld, approx. 1-2 years experience OR BSN, approx. 1-2 years experience OR MSN or related field with a BSN or BachelorÂ's degree in related field, no experience.
  • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
Enhanced Qualifications

Master's Degree in Nursing or related field with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an NLN accrediited program highly desired

Current BLS certifcation !

Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field

Minimum of five (5) years of successful nursing practice in the ambulatory care and/or acute care setting

Minimum of two (2) years experience and demonstrated knowledge in the application of VISTA, CPRS, and BCMA computer programs

Documented evidence of experience in utilizing, developing and implementing nursing research

Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relationship skills

Demonstrated skills in all aspects of oral and written communications

Demonstrated ability to be dependable, self-directed, and flexible, including flexibility in assignment and time scheduling

Physical Standards: Satisfactory physical examination as determined by the Employee Health Unit upon appointment only. Functional requirements include light lifting under 15 lbs, li! ght carrying 15-44 lbs, walking and standing and standing for up to 8 hours, use of rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, ability to read type written characters (glasses permitted), ability to hear the whispered voice (hearing aid permitted), repeated bending for up to 8 hours, etc.
