Registered Nurse / RN - MedSurg (Fayette, AL)

Performance Planning Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients according to established standards of practice and departmental policies and procedures in order to maximize the patient's potential for health and well being.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Coordinate total nursing care for assigned patients. Assesses patient conditions including physical, psychosocial, developmental and age-specific factors for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics and plans care according to identified and prioritized actual or potential problems.

Use the nursing process to direct and provide all levels of patient care.

Participate in patient and family teaching.

Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment and unit is maintained in a clean and safe manner.

Responsible for adhering to all policies and procedures.

Assist in performance improvement (PI) activities by identifying quality issues, serve on PI teams as warranted, assist with PI measures and support and implement changes necessary for improvement.

• Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
• Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
• Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
• Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required High School diploma or equivalent required. Current Alabama license as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the Alabama Board of Nursing. Experience in medical-surgical nursing preferred. Excellent communication skills, ability to meet behavioral expectations and ability to work well with a team. BCLS required. ACLS and PALS preferred. Computer skills necessary for clinical documentation. Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English.

Working Conditions Exposed to all patient care elements; subject to stress and fatigue; prolonged periods of standing and/or walking; frequent kneeling and stooping; ability to lift 50 pounds, transport, turn and position patients weighing up to 300 pounds; visions and hearing normal or corrected to normal; can write legibly; manual dexterity to perform patient care tasks.
