Head Legal and Junior Legal Associate [Nigeria]


 

LandWey Investment Limited and its subsidiaries is seeking to hire an experienced Head of Legal and a Junior Legal Associate to join its dynamic team.

In this role, the Head of Legal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing the Company's legal and compliance strategy, managing legal and regulatory risks, and ensuring that the Company and its subsidiaries is fully compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement best practices for legal services on assigned transactions

· Provide high quality and comprehensive legal advice, prepares and reviews legal opinions and agreements as may be requested by users from time to time

· Participate in commercial negotiations on transactions involving the Company and draft, review and summarize key provisions in respect of real estate industry laws and regulations and obtain necessary internal approvals

· Attend and participate in Company related meeting related meetings including without limitation management meetings, assets acquisition meetings and any other related meetings and provide detailed reports of discussions to management

· Liaise with the Finance Team external solicitors and external financial advisors on ongoing Finance or M&A transactions

· Liaise with the Finance Department on tax compliance requirements and tax implications of transactions

· Provide dispute resolution management support to the Company and its subsidiaries and work with legal team in handling the Company's litigation and other dispute resolution management, as may be required from time-to-time

· Liaise with external solicitors and obtains regular updates on ongoing litigation

· Work with the Finance team to ensure prompt settlement of all legal bills

Qualifications & Skills:

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in legal and compliance roles (Head of Legal)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in legal and compliance roles (Junior Legal Associate)
  • Experience in the Real Estate industry is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of the local, national and international laws and regulations
  • Experience managing legal and compliance teams (Head of Legal)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

· Process turnaround and general performance on clients and transaction related documents

· Ensure effectiveness of external counsel employed by the Company

· Level of adherence to mandatory reporting requirements (quality of reporting & completion deadlines)

· Availability of up-to-date and comprehensive information on each legal document affecting the Company and its subsidiaries

· Ease of access to Company business, transaction and legal records

· Compliance with filing of statutory and regulatory returns

· Success rate in dispute resolution processes handled for the Company

· Quality and effectiveness of day-to-day administrative support provided Promptness/timeliness of service delivery Customer satisfaction levels

· Quality and comprehensiveness of legal information/data
